Kids & Mosquitoes

quebecGAP Quebec team (July 17/06). Alone on a foggy night, I made my way to the swamp that had as many mosquitoes as my mind had thoughts. There always seems to be a lot to contemplate and reflect on when your involved in such a neat work.

Melissa, Derek, Ashleigh, Shayla, Randy and I have certainly had our moments of growing, bonding and learning so far as we've traveled from Montreal, to Laval, to Lachute.

We began our time in Quebec in Montreal on July 13. Our work involved going out on busy street corners, setting up a sketch board and doing open air evangelism. Some of the talks that resulted from that time were really unique. I talked to many Catholics, some New Age people, a Bhuddist, and many people who kind of just believed in whatever's right for you. Praise God for the man who accepted Christ after chatting with our host for a couple of hours one afternoon!

gap_2006_quebec_team_editIn Laval we did a five-day VBS and saw 8 children make decisions to follow Jesus for the first time! Wow! Our team really enjoyed our stay there.

Now we are staying at Camp des Iles and driving the ten minutes into Lachute every day for our second week of VBS. Our attendance was 23 today, and each day as we take time for the children to "close their eyes, bow their heads, and fold their hands," I am amazed that God is truly at work. Already there's been at least 3 children who have made serious decisions to follow Jesus!

During the afternoons and evenings, we are also preparing for camp, which begins this Sunday. I've been asked to help co-direct with our host and lead recreation, and the rest of the team will be counselling. We will also be doing chapels. Forty kids have already registered.

So we can certainly say that God is at work! We are being blessed through people and also through the beautiful scenery. Can't go wrong with a rocky river that forms an island that holds our lovely camp. Yeah God!

Thanks for all your prayers and support. I'm looking forward to seeing some of you again soon. GAP is officially done on August 13th.

Until mosquitoes cease to exist and children cease to be hyper, I sign off,

Crystelle Dueck (Team Leader, GAP 2006 Quebec)
